05 Dodge Ram to 08 fiberwerx fenders.

Unread postby Ashman » Fri Jun 14, 2013 1:28 pm

Fiberwerx 2008 Dodge Ram fenders/headlights on a 2005 Dodge. Needed new headlights anyways.
On ebay the head lights were only $129 and the adapter harness for the 2008 style bulb H13 (9008)was only $10 a pr.
Ordered some HID bulbs for about $50.

The turn signal bulb is the same for both year splits.

The next project is the bed sides but that will take a long weekend to finish.

It was easy most of the mounting holes were pre marked you just have to drill them. The hoel mid door is not marked and the bottom of the door tab is not marked. The headlight required some eyeballing and marking before drilling the holes, both sides had an easy fit.

Havent finished the MJ yet. Ill finish the MJ bed sides before starting the dodge bedsides.

Head light conversion I completed yesterday. The Bulb shape and harness are different form my old 2005 to the new 2008 head light housings.

I bought a $10.50 Conversion harness to go from the 2005 style plug to the 2008 style light bulb plug
9007 HB5 To 9008 H13 Harness. I think it was worth spending the $10 to not hack into the factory wiring harness.

I bought a low cost HID conversion light set with ballasts for $65. OPT-7
I chose a very white light color temperature not the annoying blue.
This model has high beam and low beam functions. When on high beams the lights switch to a lower output hallogen and the HID bulb turns off. Some HID kits you only have one option super bright low beams. This way if you want a dimmer light you have the option.

Added 2in wheel spacers from ballsitic. The scrub radius change the wheel clearance, Had to trim the fender and beat over the pinch seam at the kick panel. Now I have full lock to lock steering and no rubbing the control arms...

Looks like your offset is about what my aftermarket wheels are now...with my 2" spacer and 35s i juuuust rub the back of my fenderwell...have heard if i run 37s with a 4" lift...you have to run stock offset wheels. Do you think with extended control arms id be fine with maybe a little hammer work on the back of the fenderwell?

No inner fender liner, bending over the pinch seam with some hammer work will gain you like 2in at the kick panel. the bottom of the front bumper is next to rub. I dont think I can take off this lift Like I originally planned, clearances are close. I didnt remember to measure the arms for you yet.

My 37's rubbed on the bumper just a little, cut about 1/2 to 3/4" off the bottom and tapered up 3" . No more rubbing
with my 6" front and 4" rear with 17x9 and 4 1/2" back spacing,,

The stainless steel bed rails were attached with double stick tape. and the tape was so strong they bent taking them off.

I drilled out all the spot welds only to discover the bed rails are glued together. I ended up cutting the bed rail in half then used a cutoffwheel to cut out the 3/16in thick bonding material. PITA.

Got one side off and fiberglass trimmed, other side allteh plug welds are drilled but still need to chop the bed rail to get it off.

It's all done for now.

Took about half a day to finish the install. Had to lengthen the fuel tank hoses. trim the bed liner. And Mount the mud flaps.
